Autocares Nika becomes the best company in road safety in all of Catalonia

We have obtained ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) 39001 certification and are the only discretionary passenger transport company in the country that has received it.

The Tarragona-based coach company Nika has become the first and only discretionary passenger transport company in Catalonia to receive ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) 39001 certification, a fact that makes it one of the principal references for road safety across the country. This international standard is a tool that aims to drastically reduce injuries and even deaths caused by traffic accidents and therefore considerably reduce road accidents. “This certification represents for us a guarantee to the customer when it comes to offering very high standards of efficiency and development in terms of road safety,” according to Elisa Miquel, Head of Administration of Autocares Nika.

The 39001 standard, known as Road Safety Management Systems (SV, Seguridad Vial, in Spanish), is certified by the official company Applus and specifies the requirements of good road safety including the development of the necessary measures to achieve it, as well as the application of a preventive policy. “Internally it improves the management of risk and expenses associated with accidents and increases productivity, while obliging us, even further, to continuously improve,” explains Elisa Miquel. ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) 39001 is part of the global road accident reduction plan. In this way, the United Nations (UN) declared this decade as the Action for Road Safety in order to end the high number of injuries and deaths as a result of traffic accidents.

This certification represents a new endorsement of the work of Autocares Nika, which in 2011 was recognised as the best discretionary transport company in all of Spain, an award that at the time had not yet been obtained by any Catalan company in the sector. “Receiving ISO (International Standardisation Organisation) 39001

not only consolidates our client portfolio but also opens us up to new markets. In this way, thanks to this certification we can now authenticate the work we do in relation to the safety of our vehicles and passengers,” says Elisa Miquel.

Miquel shares the management of the company with her two siblings, Gloria and Josep Maria (Logistics and Workshop). The company was founded in 1972 and represents the third generation of the family in this business of passenger transport. “We are a family business and now we manage the company from a female perspective,” says Elisa Miquel, smiling.

Currently, Nika has 50 coaches and 75 drivers who, at the end of each year, provide more than 26,000 services transporting a total of 1.3 million passengers with 3 million kilometres traveled.
